The Santa Fe Nomads Junior Football
Academy
Since July 2006, Santa Fe has run
a Junior Football Academy for children aged
5 - 14 years old at the Nomads Sports Club, Metro Manila,
Philippines.
The Academy was conceived by Santa
Fe Philippines Marketing Manager and Nomads Sports Club Director Tom Whitwell.
The aim was to offer football opportunities to as many local children as
possible. With help from parents, sponsors and other football mad volunteers,
the Academy now coaches 70 children of all nationalities every Saturday
afternoon.
Regular match days and
invitational tournaments with local & international schools are held
quarterly to give the Juniors a real taste of competitive team sports. Many of
our players are children who have never had the chance to play football before
as the Academy represents a diverse section of the Manila community.
The Santa Fe Nomads Junior Academy
aims to bring Children together in the spirit of team sports, encouraging
youngsters to play competitive football in a sportsman-like manner.
Nomads Sports Club recently hosted
the first Children’s match day of the 2007 season for the burgeoning Santa Fe
Nomads Junior Football Academy. Our opponents and guests from the European
International School enjoyed a great day of Football, Fun and Camaraderie.
The event featured competitive
matches for under 8, under 11 and under 14 age groups
All matches were 7-a-side with
roll on roll off substitutions and a maximum squad size of 12 players per team.
The matches were fast and furious
as over 70 children competed for the first silverware of 2007. EuroCampus
eventually emerged as overall winners as despite losing the under 8's they
bounced back with thrilling victories in the under 11 and under 14 category.
Thanks to the support from our players, parents, coaches and sponsors since the Academy's humble beginnings, we can look forward to many more great days like this.
