Visitors Pass
An advance visa is not required for citizens of most countries for short-term visits. If arrangements have not been made for an Employment Pass or other visa, you will be considered a visitor and your passport will be stamped with a 30-day visitor visa. You can ask the Immigration Officer for a 60-day visitor visa and in some cases they will even grant a 90-day pass. If your visitor visa expires before obtaining a long-term visa, (employment pass) you will need to leave the country or apply for an extension at the immigration office.
Employment Pass
Any foreign national wishing to work in Singapore and whose salary exceeds $2,000 per month must obtain an Employment Pass. Those earning less that $2,000 per month must obtain a Work Permit.
An employment pass takes about eight weeks and costs $30.00, for a renewable one-year permit. SFRS consultant should start this process well in advance. Applications are available from The Singapore Immigration Office (see above for contact details).
Dependent Pass
A male employment pass holder can apply for a dependent pass for his wife and unmarried children (below 21 years of age). This process generally takes three weeks. This is not true for husbands of female employment pass holders. Singapore doesn’t recognize an adult male as a dependent. A husband may be granted a long term Social Visit Pass which will enable him to look for a job and apply for an Employment Pass or Work Permit in Singapore. He will need a copy of his marriage license and a letter from his wife’s company confirming that he is in Singapore as part of her employment.
Student Pass
Foreigners need to apply for a Student Pass if they come to Singapore to study full time. However, holders of Dependent Passes need not apply, unless they intend to study in a government or government aided school or junior college.
Professional Visit
Pass
Foreign consultants, lecturers and entertainers who wish to work in Singapore on a short-term basis, need to obtain a professional visit pass.
