Economy

Since independence, the Slovak Republic has endeavored to make the transition from monolithic controls under socialism to a market economy. Policies were initiated to promote privatization of publicly owned enterprises, such as banks. The government also created policies which were friendly to foreign businesses and investors, spawning new investment, particularly in the automobile industry.

Rental agents handle most of the desirable property in Bratislava. They also charge prospective renters for their services. The usual charge is one month's rent, payable only if an accommodation is found.
