Corporate Immigration — Temporary Disruption in KLIA Pass Endorsement Process
Santa Fe publication date
21 August 2024
Overview
The Immigration Department of Malaysia has recently encountered technical issues affecting the endorsement of Employment Pass (EP), Dependent Pass, and Long-Term Social Visit Pass (LT-SVP) at the Expatriate Services Division (ESD) Satellite Centres located at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminals 1 and 2 (KLIA1 and KLIA2). These issues have temporarily halted the ability to obtain endorsement stickers upon arrival at the airport.
Who will be affected?
This update impacts expatriates and their families entering Malaysia who are awaiting the endorsement of their EP, Dependent Pass, or LT-SVP at the KLIA1 or KLIA2 ESD Satellite Centres.
Background
The ESD Satellite Centres at KLIA1 and KLIA2 were introduced to expedite the endorsement process, allowing expatriates to obtain their pass stickers immediately upon arrival. However, technical issues have recently disrupted this service, causing a temporary hold on the endorsement process at both airport terminals.
Impact
The temporary suspension of the on-the-spot endorsement service will lead to delays in the processing and commencement of work for expatriates. Instead of receiving their pass endorsements at the airport, expatriates will now need to have their endorsements completed manually after entering the country using the entry stamp. This manual process typically takes 5-7 working days after submission, which may extend the timeline for expatriates to begin their assignments.

Santa Fe recommendation
Santa Fe Relocations views this disruption as a significant challenge for expatriates and their families entering Malaysia. The delays in the endorsement process could impact the timing of work commencement and overall planning. We strongly advise our clients to stay in close contact with their Santa Fe immigration consultants upon entry to ensure a smooth transition through this temporary process. For nationalities requiring a visa prior to entry, it is essential to obtain the Single-Entry Visa or eVisa as usual. While the situation is expected to be resolved, we recommend careful planning and coordination during this period. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Malaysia Immigration Team.
