China National Health Commission released the 9th edition of Prevention and Control Scheme of COVID-19 on 28th June, 2022.

The quarantine policy for inbound travelers have been reduced from 14 days to 7 days and self-health condition monitoring period from 7 days to 3 days.

The official notification from the local authority of each city is yet to be released, but we believe it will become available in the next few days with the new guidance published from the national authority.

Who will be affected?

All International travelers entering China.

Since early 2020, Chinese authorities started implementing a quarantine policy for all inbound travelers from overseas countries, i.e. all inbound travelers including returning Chinese nationals needed to go through a 14-day mandatory quarantine in government allocated quarantine facilities, followed with a 7-day self-health condition monitoring period at the traveler’s own residence/hotel or government assigned hotel.

Additional days of quarantine have been required by some local authorities in many cities in China as an enhancement measure for COVID-19 containment.

With the reduction of the quarantine period for inbound travelers to China, the travel arrangement into China and immigration process will be shorter and easier.

Implementation date

28th June 2022

Santa Fe recommendations

With the increasingly robust COVID-19 prevention and control scheme available, Chinese authorities show great confidence in the containment of COVID-19 imported cases under control. The main focus from the authorities now has been shifted gradually from COVID-19 containment and prevention to supporting the growth of the economy.

We anticipate further lifting of quarantine requirements for inbound travelers will be available in the next half of the year and more conveniences and motivation for people mobilization will be provided.
