New Requirements – Medical Certificate for Work Permit Application under BOI, IEAT and DMF

The Employment Department has announced that a medical certificate will be required for work permit applications and renewals under BOI (Board of Investment), IEAT (Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand) and DMF (Department of Mineral Fuels), effective Aug 19, 2019.

Who will be affected?

All foreigners who are applying for or going to apply for a new work permit or work permit renewal under BOI, IEAT and DMF.

Background:

A Medical certificate was not part of the work permit application and renewal requirements under BOI, IEAT and DMF previously. That was part of the Thai government’s efforts to make it easier for foreigners to apply for a work permit under the mentioned three government promotional schemes.

This change came about because recently the Thai government has found cases where BOI work permit holders were diagnosed with severe contagious diseases. In their effort to counter contagious diseases, the Thai government has decided that all foreign applicants under the afore mentioned promotional schemes will be required to obtain a medical certificate. The medical certificate will certify that the applicant is found free from these 6 diseases: Leprosy, Tuberculosis, Drug addiction, Alcoholism, Elephantiasis and Tertiary-stage syphilis.

The medical certificate is valid for 1 month after issuance date.

Impact:

All ongoing and future work permit applications and renewals under the afore mentioned promotional schemes will be required to present a medical certificate of the applicant.
