Corporate Immigration — New salary requirements for German Blue Card

Overview
Effective 1. January 2025, Germany increased the salary requirements for Blue card applications, a popular visa for skilled workers.
Who will be affected?
All non-EU nationals who received a job offer in Germany and meet all other requirements for a Blue card, must ensure that the new salary threshold is met in order to apply for a Blue card visa. Blue card holders who are already in Germany and need to renew their permit, also should meet the new salary requirement.
Background
The salary threshold is related to the social security contribution and is calculated at the beginning of each year based on national statistics. For 2025 this has led to a salary threshold increasement for the Blue card visa. A lower salary threshold is required for shortage occupations, such as IT specialist or Engineers or medical doctors.
Impact
Foreign nationals with a recognised degree and a contract of at least 6 months need to earn at least 48.500 EUR gross per year. For shortage occupations you would need to have a salary of at least 43.759,80 EUR gross per year.
