Immigration update: Belgium I Lockdown extended

Lockdown extended until May 3rd 2020

The Belgian National Security Council and the Belgian Government have announced the extension of the COVID-19 measures until May 3rd 2020.

On top of the already implemented measures, all mass gatherings are prohibited until end of August 2020.

After May 3rd the measures are meant to be lifted very gradually. How this will be organised in practice will be debated next week.

The Schengen external borders closure has been extended until May 15th 2020. This prohibits entry into Belgium to most non-EEA travellers.

Until further notice Belgian Embassies and Consulates remain closed for non-essential services (visas are not issued), same counts for the town halls.

The Ministries and the Foreigners Office are still treating work and residence applications. Most town halls issue temporary work and residence documents via email until they reopen for all activities.
