China continue to open borders to select foreign nationals
Starting from 22nd August 2020, in addition to 36 European countries and South Korea, foreign nationals from several other Asian countries including Cambodia, Laos, Japan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam holding valid residence permits may apply for visas free of charge at Chinese Embassy in their relevant countries.
Who will be affected?
Foreign nationals who hold valid residence permits (including work permits and permits for family reunion and personal matters).
Impact
According to the announcements posted on the official websites of the Embassies of the People’s Republic of China in these countries, starting from 22nd August, foreign nationals and permanent resident holders from the above mentioned countries with valid Chinese residence permits (work, personal affairs, and family reunion) can apply for the relevant visa at the Chinese Embassy in their respective countries at no additional charge.
The Chinese government had suspended entry for most foreigners holding valid visas or residence permits from the 28th March but continued to process visa applications for foreign nationals who wanted to enter China for essential economic, trade, scientific and technological activities or due to emergency humanitarian needs. Recently, as the spread of the pandemic has been better managed by many countries, the Chinese government is relaxing it’s restrictions in an orderly and gradual manner.
