COVID-19 – Further disruption in the Middle East
Considering the spread of COVID-19 and in reference to the regulations set by the Ministry of Public Health in the state of Qatar to minimize the spread of the virus, the Civil Aviation Authority has restricted passenger traffic from Egypt.
Who will be affected?
All Egyptian nationals and passengers irrespective of nationalities, arriving from Egypt.
Impact
Qatar Civil Aviation Authority has advised all airlines to implement a temporary flying restriction on all nationalities including nationals from the Arab Republic of Egypt from flying into the Kingdom.
The decision is also applicable to all passengers irrespective of nationalities arriving from all intermediate points from Egypt.
Qatari nationals are exempted from the above-mentioned restrictions.
The temporary travel restriction includes those who are in the possession of the valid residence in the State of Qatar.
The restriction is applicable on all flights arriving to Doha until further notice.
Santa Fe Analysis
As authorities have not stipulated any timeline for the measures implemented on travellers, affected travellers should refrain from making travel plans to Qatar from Egypt as much as possible until further advice is received from the relevant government bodies.
For employers, it is advised to keep assignment start dates flexible for affected travellers and also to keep business travels to Qatar to a minimum.
