Immigration update: Dubai rolls out remote working scheme

Dubai rolls out remote working scheme for overseas professionals

The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) announced a new scheme allowing foreign nationals to work for an overseas based entity whilst residing in the emirates.

Who will be affected?

Any foreign national wanting to work for a foreign based entity whilst residing in the emirates.

Impact

Professionals working for overseas companies can now seek to apply for a one-year remote working visa to live in Dubai while remaining employed abroad. This scheme appeals to people who are due to be working virtually from home for the foreseeable future.

The move provides remote working professionals and their families, an opportunity to relocate on an annual basis to Dubai.

The remote working professionals will be able to secure the documents required to rent housing, procure services and send their children to school in Dubai.

Companies have started to recognise that remote working is a way of life and remote working is here to stay. With this scheme, companies will save costs associated with renting office space, paying licence fees and secure residency visas or work permits for employees while receiving access to the region.

Eligibility criteria:

• Passport with validity of 6 months or more.
• Health insurance with UAE coverage validity
• Proof of employment from current employer with at least one-year contract validity
• Last month’s pay slip and bank statements for preceding 3 months
• Minimum salary requirement of $5,000 and above per month
• If the applicant is an owner of the company, proof of ownership for one year or more, with an average monthly income of $5,000 or above is required along with bank statement for 3 preceding months.
