Impact on visa renewal and application

The HKSAR Government have instructed the civil servants to resume working from home effective 20th July 2020.

Who will be affected?

Visa submissions, and collections

Background

Due to the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in Hong Kong again, the HKSAR Government have instructed the civil servants to resume working from home and the Immigration Department has announced the following provision of limited services starting from today (20 July 2020) until further notice.

Impact

  1. Visa renewal applications are only being accepted if the visa is due to expire on the same day.
  2. The Departments handling initial visa applications (i.e. initial employment, dependant, training, IANG) and change of visa sponsorship applications have suspended their services, meaning that they will not be processing new applications nor are we able to collect visas labels which have already been approved. Applications which have already been submitted to the relevant Departments will be on-hold until further notice.

Immigration control points will not permit entry to Visitors or persons in-transit into Hong Kong unless they are a legally married spouse or a minor child of a Hong Kong resident (Hong Kong nationals, permanent residents and visa holders). Regardless of the outbound country or nationality, currently all asymptomatic inbound travellers arriving at the Hong Kong International Airport are required to be tested for COVID-19 and mandated to wait for the test results to be released before departing the premise.

Santa Fe Analysis

Coronavirus is still spreading rapidly in some parts of the world. Santa Fe advise all our clients to take health and safety measures while they travel.

This notification shows how things can change very quickly as we are seeing our 3 wave of infections. The HKSAR will continue to monitor the situation and will implement further social distancing measures if required.

While government policies are not always crystal clear and straight forward, you can reach out to your local Santa Fe consultant for more information and guidance.
