Immigration update: Indonesia | Latest inbound travel restrictions

With the sharp increase of COVID-19 cases in Jakarta, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights has released a new regulation on restricting foreigners from entering Indonesia during emergency restrictions on community activities (PPKM).

Who will be affected?
– E-Visa holders planning to enter Indonesia
– Foreigners transiting in Indonesia
– Sponsoring entities hiring foreign workers in Indonesia

Description
The Ministry of Law and Human Rights has released a new regulation further restricting foreigners from entering Indonesia during PPKM period effective 23 July 2021 at 00:00.

Any foreigner, including those holding e-Visa for Indonesia with a recommendation approval from the relevant ministry, are currently prohibited to enter Indonesia.

This restriction is exempted for the below:
1. Travellers holding Diplomatic Visa;
2. Travellers holding Official/Service Visa (Visa Dinas);
3. Current Temporary or Permanent Stay Permit (ITAS or ITAP Online) holders;
4. Travellers for Medical / Humanitarian purpose (e.g.doctors / lab workers for COVID handling purpose, only allowed entry with related ministry approval);
5. Ship and aircraft crew.

During this restriction, e-Visa applications for foreigners who are outside Indonesia (offshore application) are currently being put on hold.

Foreigners currently in Indonesia may apply for Social Visit Visa or Temporary Stay Visa in-country (onshore application).

Santa Fe Recommendation
With the current restrictions, we urge travellers who are not under the exempted list above to postpone travel to Indonesia until further notice. All travel arrangements should remain flexible. We also urge employers of foreign workers in Indonesia to keep assignment start date flexible. Santa Fe is closely monitoring the development of the Immigration matters and will issue further updates.
