Immigration update: Italy | Declaration of presence

The declaration of presence is a declaration that foreign people must do by law when one of these situations occurs:

– when coming to Italy for a period of maximum 90 days for the following reasons: visits, mission, business, tourism and study if the stamp of the Italian border doesn’t appear on the passport. This replaces the stay permit that is not needed for short stay for the mentioned reasons.
– when the foreign person enters Italy through Schengen countries and the passport is not stamped at the Italian border.

The declaration must be done by the foreign person, at the local police department, within 8 days from the entrance to Italy.
In case the foreign person is staying in residence/hotel, this declaration is replaced by the “scheda per alloggiati” that the residence/hotel has to complete by law and handed over to the police within 24 hours from arrival. It is compulsory to ask for this declaration to the residence/hotel.
In case the declaration is not done or is delayed, penalties may be applicable.
