Immigration update: Kenya | Lifting of Amnesty for stay beyond 6 months
On 14 September 2020, the Director General of Immigration Services in the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government State Department of Interior and Citizen Services, announced the lifting of amnesty for stay beyond 6 months.
Who is affected?
This will affect all international travellers in Kenya whose passes expired.
The amnesty was introduced following the implementation of strict measures to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus, blocking entry to the country to everyone except citizens and residents.
Kenya is gradually lifting these measures as the spread of the virus is slowing in the country with about 13 000 active cases.
Foreign nationals who are currently in Kenya, who benefited from the amnesty have until 28 September 2020 to depart the country or regularise their stay by applying for the required permit or pass.
