Control Order Movements – Partial Lockdown Extended

The Government of Malaysia has extended the “Control Order Movements” from 31st March 2020 to 14th April 2020 throughout the country. This control order is made under the Prevention Act and Infectious Disease Control 1988 and Police Act 1967.)

Who will be affected?

All foreign tourists and visitors to Malaysia will be totally banned and corporate offices remain closed.

Background

The announcement was made by the Government on the 25th March 2020 via the Prime Minister in a special address due to the worsening of the COVID 19 situation in Malaysia.

Impact

The likely impact will be on Project deliverables, travel in and out of Malaysia, endorsement of passports, cancellation of work permits and all immigration related transactional work.

In light of the latest measures rolled out, authorities have not stipulated any timeline for these additional implemented measures, travellers are prohibited from entering Malaysia through any entry points until further advice is received from the relevant government bodies.

All corporate and government offices to remain closed, including the Immigration Department of Malaysia.

For employers, it is advised to keep assignment start dates flexible for affected travellers and also to defer all travels till further notice.
