Immigration update: Malaysia | Government reduces quarantine period for entry

The government of Malaysia has reduced the quarantine period for those who are allowed to travel into Malaysia based on their vaccination status.

Who are affected?

Malaysians and foreign long-term pass holders entering Malaysia.

Background

The government is reducing the quarantine period for Malaysians and foreign long-term pass holders entering the country to between 5 to 10 days depending on their vaccination status.
Travellers who have received their booster dose will only need to be quarantined for 5 days.
Travellers who have been fully vaccinated but have yet to receive their booster dose will be quarantined for 7 days.
Travellers who have not been fully vaccinated or not vaccinated will be quarantined for 10 days.

• For those vaccinated with a booster dose (including adolescents aged 12 to 17), the rules are as follows:

+ Five-day quarantine
+ Must be negative via a RT-PCR test two days before travel
+ Subject to a RT-PCR test on arrival
+ Subject to a RT-PCR test on the fourth day or alternatively, an RTK-Antigen test carried out by a qualified health worker on the fifth day.
+ Released from quarantine if negative via RT-PCR test on the fourth day, or RTK-Antigen test on the fifth day.

• For those who have completed their primary vaccine dose but have yet to get a booster dose, the rules are as follows:

+ Seven-day quarantine
+ Must be negative via a RT-PCR test two days before travel
+ Subject to a RT-PCR test on arrival
+ Subject to a RT-PCR test on the fifth day or alternatively, an RTK-Antigen test carried out by a qualified health worker on the seventh day.
+ Released from quarantine if negative via RT-PCR test on the fifth day, or RTK-Antigen test on the seventh day.

• For persons without any vaccination history or with an incomplete dose, the rules are as follows:

+ Ten-day quarantine
+ Must be negative via a RT-PCR test two days before travel
+ Subject to a RT-PCR test on arrival
+ Subject to a RT-PCR test on the eighth day or alternatively, an RTK-Antigen test carried out by a qualified health worker on the tenth day.
+ Released from quarantine if negative via RT-PCR test on the eighth day, or RTK-Antigen test on the tenth day.
