Immigration update: Nationality agreement between the Kingdom of Spain and the French Republic

Background
To strengthen the ties that unite the two nations and to ensure greater practical facilities for their nationals to become, respectively, French or Spanish, as well as to avoid the risk of statelessness, which could occur by omission of the legislation of one or both States, or by an asymmetry between the two legislations.
Content
Spanish nationals may acquire French nationality and French nationals may acquire Spanish nationality while retaining their former nationality, Spanish or French respectively, provided that they meet the requirements determined by the legislation of the State whose nationality they acquire.
Implementation and duration
The Nationality agreement between the Kingdom of Spain and the French Republic of March 15, 2022, was published by the BOE on March 29, 2022 and will come into effect on April 1, 2022.
This agreement shall remain in force for an indefinite period of time.
