Peru will request humanitarian visa to Venezuelan migrants trying to enter the country

Summary

Effective June 15th, 2019, humanitarian Visa issued by Peruvian post in home country will become mandatory for all those Venezuelan migrants trying to enter the country.

Background

Humanitarian visa can currently be applied for at the Peruvian border, but more than 700,000 Venezuelan migrants have entered Peru since 2017 creating big troubles for public services, increasing competition for local jobs, issuing social and economic problems, among other facts, so the Peruvian government decided to toughen entry rules for Venezuelan citizens.

Who will be affected?

All Venezuelan citizens trying to migrate to Peru with the intention of residing in such country.

Impact

This will affect all Venezuelan migrants trying to enter Peru, but also corporate expats planning to start assignments in Peru, because immigration procedures will surely be affected in their processing times as a consequence of the high volume of new applications being managed by immigration authorities.

  • For corporate applicants:

Contact your Santa Fe Relocation consultant or the Peruvian nearest post and/or Peruvian Immigration Authority, to file applications and determine whether estimated processing times for corporate migrants have varied.

  • For employers:

Adjust estimated arrival dates to host country according with the variations on corporate applications estimated processing times or contact your Santa Fe representative.
