Immigration update: Thailand | Updates on the current immigration status

Updates on the current immigration status

As COVID-19 continues to spread in much of the world, including Thailand, here is an update on the current status of Thailand immigration and the recent changes.

Who will be affected?

Foreigners currently in Thailand and foreigners who are wanting to enter Thailand.

Background

Here are some updates on the current Thailand immigration status

1. In general, Thai borders are open with restrictions. All foreigners need to apply for a COE (Certificate of Entry), before they can enter the Kingdom. Thailand has also opened tourist visas to eligible applicants with COVID restrictions. All incoming travelers still need to book with one of the repatriation flights organized by local Thai Embassies, with semi-commercial flights added in some locations.

2. Prior to this 3rd wave of COVID-19, foreigners inoculated with one of the approved vaccines (AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Covidshield, Janssen, Moderna, Pfizer-Biontech and Sinopharm) would only need to serve 7 days of quarantine. Now the government has extended the quarantine period back to 14 nights for all arrivals after May 5.

3. Given the current COVID situation in and around India, the Thai government has suspended COE issuance to all foreigners traveling from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, until further notice.

4. Foreigners who are still stranded in Thailand because of COVID-19, could continue to apply for a temporary 60-day visa under COVID consideration. Submissions have to be done before the end of May.

Impact

This 3rd wave of COVID-19 is adding delay to the overall immigration process, with foreigners traveling from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh banned from entering the country for the moment.

But in general, Thai borders are open with restrictions. Employment seekers outside of the above three locations could proceed with their visa applications.
