Immigration update: UK | New national restrictions from 05 November 2020

New national restrictions from 05 November 2020 until 02 December 2020

From this Thursday 5 November 2020 until Wednesday 2 December 2020, the UK Government is advising people to stay at home. The UK Government is taking the following action:
– Requiring people to stay at home, except for specific purposes.
– Preventing gathering with people you do not live with, except for specific purposes.
– Closing certain businesses and venues.

You may only leave home for specific reasons, for example if you cannot work from home, if you need to attend medical appointments, to escape injury or harm, if you need to shop for food and essentials and to provide care for vulnerable people, or as a volunteer.

Non-essential shops, pubs, bars, restaurants, leisure and entertainment venues will be asked to close, though click and collect services, takeaway and delivery services can continue, and essential shops will remain open. The UK Government is advising against panic buying.

These new measures will apply nationally for four weeks up until at least Wednesday 2 December 2020. At the end of the period, the government will look to return to a regional tiered approach, based on the latest data.

It is likely that this second lockdown will affect the UK Home Office centres and the processing of applications in the UK will be delayed. However, there is no news, to date, on the whether the lockdown will affect the UK visa application centres outside the UK.
