Immigration update: Vietnam | Announcements on Coronavirus

Immigration and Department of Labour announcements on Coronavirus

Vietnam authorities have implemented strict restrictions on travellers who are entering Vietnam from mainland China and known nCoV infected areas.

Who will be affected?

All travellers including work visa holders that have been in mainland China and nCoV affected areas in the last 14 days.

Impact

With immediate effect, the Vietnamese Government announced it would deny entry to all foreign travellers from mainland China and nCoV affected areas, including those that have transited through China, in the last 14 days.

The Department of Labour will also stop accepting work permit applications for foreign employees who have stayed or transited through China and nCoV affected areas until further notice.

The Immigration Department has also taken action to suspend previously issued visas and the issuance of any new visas to travellers with PRC passports.

Implementation

These measures have already been implemented and will remain in effect until further notice is received from the authorities.

Santa Fe Analysis

As the authorities have not stipulated any timeline for the additional measures implemented on travellers, these travellers should refrain from making travel plans to Vietnam until further advice is received from the relevant government bodies.

For employers, it is advised to keep assignment start dates flexible for affected travellers and to keep business travel to mainland China to a minimum.
