Top cities to work

If you’re thinking about working abroad, the best people to ask for advice might be the people who have already made the move, and are living it up in warmer climates (most of the time!). Finding the best cities for living and working abroad can be tough; after all, how do you know if it will be the perfect fit for you? Here at Santa Fe Relocation, we’re taking a look at the best places for expats to work in 2018, so you can rest assured that you’ll be able to start an excellent career abroad.

San Francisco, United States

Anyone who has been lucky enough to visit San Francisco will agree that this city is one of the best in the world, but don’t just take our word for it. More than 57% of expats say that the city offers fantastic job opportunities, highlighting why it’s the first place on our list. Even though the world-renowned San Fran fog may not make for the perfect beach weather, when you work in San Francisco, you have an insanely beautiful commute to look forward to every day and can enjoy the casual Friday-feeling 5 days a week. Moreover, if you’re a lover of coffee, you’ll be pleased to know that, in San Francisco, you’ll be surrounded by individuals who take the taste of their brew as seriously as their work, meaning that you can wave goodbye to poorly-made hot beverages.

London, United Kingdom

This wouldn’t be a true list of the best places for expats to work in 2018 if we didn’t mention London – so here it is! London offers a wide range of jobs in a number of industries, including accountancy, banking, finance, manufacturing, and construction. If you’re not convinced, ask any expat who live there! There are a number of other reasons to work in London, though. With stunning historical architecture to visit at your leisure, and a multicultural environment that’s difficult to find elsewhere, you’ll never get bored and you certainly don’t have to worry about feeling out of place. Boasting excellent public transport year-round, the possibilities are limitless in London!

New York, United States

Expats, get ready. As an expat starting their career in New York, you’ll be part of one of the largest city economies in the world, and if that isn’t a good enough reason to move to the Big Apple, let us tell you more. Working in NYC is quite literally like living a real life fairy-tale. Not only are there enough food options to keep you well-fed throughout your entire career, but if you want an incredible view, all you have to do is step outside. As well as fantastic views, if you’re an avid socialiser, you’ll be pleased to know that every office in the city is approximately a 5-minute walk away from bars, pubs and clubs galore!

Dublin, Ireland

From New York to Dublin; even though Dublin might be known as one of the largest city economies across the globe, there are still a number of other reasons why you should consider working in Ireland. Ranked 11th in the 2011 Global Peace Index for safest countries in the world to live in, Dublin is the perfect place for those looking to relocate and start a family. Moreover, in Ireland, you are surrounded by beautiful landscapes as far as the eye can see and are able to partake in numerous activities such as hiking, surfing, climbing, walking and cycling outside office hours, making the city one of the best places for expats to work this year. With plenty of opportunities to work at some of the world’s biggest corporations (which is probably something to do with the low corporate tax rate), and plenty of diversity to enjoy, Dublin is the ideal expat destination if you’re looking for a career change.

Birmingham, United Kingdom

Birmingham is yet another city that is a great place to live and work in. Full of enthusiasm and energy, as the second largest city of the United Kingdom, Birmingham is now one of Europe’s best cities for investors. On its way to becoming one of the most amazing cities in the world, it’s hard to ignore all the fantastic job opportunities Birmingham has to offer. Some of the best well-paid jobs in Birmingham include Cyber Security Field Sales Executive, Finance Manager, SEO Executive and Primary Teachers, and thus if you haven’t already, we strongly suggest that you update your CV and head to the West Midlands!
