Eid Al Fitr in the Islamic World

The Islamic Holy Month of Ramadan is expected to conclude on Friday, 15 June 2018. This is marked in many countries with public holidays.

Who will be affected?
Eid Al Fitr will result in public holidays across the Islamic world, with some minority Muslim countries also recognising the occasion with public holidays. Clients should anticipate potential delays within the Middle East, as well as parts of Africa and Asia.

Organisations should anticipate public holidays delaying immigration applications for the below locations:

  • Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Niger, Tunisia and more;
  • Asia: Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Brunei, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan, Turkey and more; and
  • Middle East: Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the UAE and more.

Of particular note, Indonesia has declared public holidays from Monday, 11 June, until Wednesday, 20 June inclusive, which impacts both Government services and Santa Fe’s offices.

Public holidays in Malaysia will see Government offices and Santa Fe closed on Friday, 15 June and Monday, 18 June.

Government offices and Santa Fe will be closed in the Philippines on Tuesday, 12 June, as well as on Friday, 15 June and Tuesday, 19 June.

Santa Fe’s offices in the United Arab Emirates will be closed on Sunday, 17 June, and Government offices will be closed on Thursday, 14 June and Sunday, 17 June. Eid Al Fitr holidays in the UAE are subject to sighting of the moon, and Government offices may also be closed on Monday, 18 June.

Impact on Applications
Companies should allow additional time for the processing of applications in countries where Eid Al Fitr is being observed, and should be aware that the Diplomatic Missions of those countries celebrating Eid Al Fitr are also likely to be closed for public holidays.

Santa Fe Analysis:
Companies should be aware of the potential impact on applications, and factor potential delays into new visa or renewal applications. If you require specific guidance on a particular set of circumstances, please contact your Santa Fe representative.
