How to enjoy a stress free Christmas move

If the Christmas period and your moving date coincide, then as you are probably aware, these dates are just around the corner. With all the tasks involved in moving, as well the logistics of planning and preparing your things, some home movers forget to plan for christmas. To help relieve some of that stress, and to make sure you enjoy both a successful move and a magical christmas, we take a look at a few tips and tricks to make the process easier.

Have a plan in place

A solid plan is key to making sure you feel in control and nothing gets forgotten. It can also help you to work out time lines and even share tasks with friends and family. Your plan should include arranging enough support to help you move well in advance, packing everything in good time, having a reliable moving service organised and confirming your moving date.

Once you have the key logistics planned, you can move onto preparing for christmas.  Start with planning things like having all your Christmas decorations in a box that is clearly labelled and packed last. And then another with your wrapped gifts in, well labelled. And one for your tree, unless you’re getting a fresh tree. These boxes will allow you to quickly and easily set up for christmas as soon as you’re in your new home, ensuring that you get in the Christmas spirit in good time.

Buy your presents in advance or online

With all the hustle and bustle of packing your belongings, it may be difficult to find time to go shopping for Christmas presents. Thankfully there are lots of things you can do to beat the christmas shopping rush and keep your present buying easy.

Consider buying all your gifts in advance if you can, and the earlier the better. Write up a list of everyone you need to buy for, and get to work! Online ordering can make the whole thing a lot easier and quicker, and can be done at home or on the go, in the evenings or around work and packing. If you can, have your presents delivered to a friend or family member’s address for storage until you move into your new home.And earlier shopping can mean you make excellent savings. Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales offer great opportunities to save money on your gifts, which is especially important when moving house.

Christmas meal

Although you may love playing host at Christmas, it’s easier to let someone else take the lead this year. Knowing you are enjoying your christmas dinner elsewhere really takes the pressure off. You don’t have to panic about unpacking all of your belongings immediately and can enjoy the festive period after your move, leaving organising your house until the New Year.

If you’re moving to an area far away from family or friends, or going elsewhere isn’t an option, consider going to a hotel or restaurant for christmas day. There’s incredible choice and availability at all price points, and can feel like a really luxurious treat and fun way to enjoy your christmas meal. It’s also a great way to meet some new people are explore your new area.

If you really want to have Christmas at home you should pre-order your food to arrive at your new home, so that it’s ready for you to cook on the 25th. If you are going to do this, ensure that your new oven, fridge and freezer are working, as well as your electricity supply. And be sure to unpack your kitchen first to ensure you have everything you’ll need to hand.

Sort out your bills

When you move house over the festive period, bills can be easily forgotten. And when businesses have closed for the holidays, it’s often too late to get them organised by Christmas Day. Make sure that all of your bills have been paid for your old house and most importantly, ensure that your new house is fully equipped with electricity, water and gas etc well in advance, so you won’t be cold over the winter months.

In order to help you remember to do this, make a checklist of everything you need to cancel and set up, so you have one less thing to stress about. Most of these things can be arranged ahead of time, especially booking in set up for TV and broadband providers.
