Moving to Brighton: Getting to know your new city

If you’re considering moving to Brighton it’s important to get to know your new city first.
Brighton is the multicultural, forward thinking, creative crown jewel of the UK’s south coast. With a population of 288,155 people, the city buzzes with creative energy and a youthful spirit.

It’s also a hub of international business, with the city playing host to the European headquarters of American Express.

If you’re between locations during your move to Brighton, our secure storage can free up time and space while you explore this great city and find your dream home. At Santa Fe Relocation, we make moving home easy for you.

Brighton’s history

Brighton and Hove are full of exciting historical places to visit once you’ve moved. The Brighton Royal Pavilion, in the city centre, is an awe-inspiring palace that was originally built for King George IV.

In 1815 the original palace was redesigned with the help of John Nash, and now the Pavilion has a distinct Indian style. The palace is now open and available for tours of the interior and gardens.

The city has a proud heritage as an inclusive place to live, and a history of being a forward thinking and liberal destination.

Brighton’s cultural highlights

Once we’ve unpacked the final boxes, and you’re settled into your new home, it’s time to explore some of the city’s cultural best bits.

Here’s our list of favourites:
• Brighton Festival and Brighton Fringe, running from May to June, offer a host of musical and comedy experiences throughout the city. The Fringe is the largest comedy festival in the UK outside of Edinburgh.
• The Brighton Photo Biennial is an incredible celebration of photography and the arts. Enjoy this at your leisure and pick the exhibitions that interest you most during this month-long event.
• Brighton is famous for hosting the UK’s biggest annual Gay Pride festival. This major event celebrates equality, diversity and inclusion whilst campaigning against discrimination. Catch the Pride parade, visit one of the music or club events, or even stop by the Pride dog show.

If you want to get to know the city quickly, our personalised location services can get you living like a local in no time. Trust Santa Fe Relocation’s local knowledge experts, and personalised services to make your transition to Brighton care free and seamless.

Where’s best to live in Brighton?

Due to the popularity of this sea side town, house prices are higher than the national average, but they remain competitive as an alternative to London or the immediate commuter belt.

The city of Brighton and Hove has a large number of Georgian and Victorian houses to choose from, benefitting from large bay windows and tall ceilings. As well as a range of modern apartments and converted properties.

The average detached house in Brighton and Hove sells for around £570,000 (accurate as of March 2019). The rental market is similarly strong, with costs around £1,355 a month for a two-bedroom flat or £2,272 a month for a four-bedroom house.

If you are set on a move to Brighton but unsure of the areas to start your house search in, we suggest looking in the heart of the city (Kemptown), or the areas of Hanover, Kemp Town and Seven Dials.
