If the Christmas period and your moving date coincide with one another, then as you are probably aware, these dates are just around the corner. With the festive season, unfortunately, being more stressful than it should and moving home being an understandably demanding experience, it is likely that you are dreading packing up and moving to your new home over the coming month. To help relieve some of that stress, here at Santa Fe Relocation, we’re taking a look at a few tips to make the process easier and help you to enjoy the festivities all while move house successfully.
Have a plan in place
Firstly, an ideal solution for reducing this stress is to have a plan in place for the lead up to and for the big day of moving. This includes arranging enough support to help you move well in advance, packing everything in good time, having a reliable moving service organised and confirming your moving date. What’s more, by having your Christmas decorations in a box that is clearly labelled and packed last, it will allow you to set these up first in your new home, so that you can still get in the Christmas spirit in good time.
Buy your presents in advance or online
With all the hustle and bustle of packing your belongings up into a number of cardboard boxes, it may be difficult to find a time to go shopping for all the Christmas presents. Therefore, if you buy them in advance or put in an order online to be delivered to you, or a trusted friend or relative’s home until you’ve moved, you can enjoy picking the perfect gifts for your family and friends without the stress.
Additionally, with Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales at the end of November, you can even save on your gifts, which you and your bank account will definitely benefit from as moving house is a costly business and you will be looking to save money any way you can.
Although you may love being host at Christmas, it may be easier if your parents or your in-laws host the big day at their house this year. That way, you don’t have to panic about unpacking all of your belongings immediately and you can enjoy the festive period after your move and approach organising your house in good time throughout the New Year.
If you really want to have Christmas at home, then pre-order your food to arrive at your new home after you have moved, so that it is ready for you to cook into a beautiful dinner on the 25th. If you are going to do this, ensure that your new oven, fridge and freezer is working, as well as electricity for all kitchen appliances. It’s also best to get the kitchen unpacked first to ensure you have all of the cutlery on hand when you need it.
When you move house, especially over the festive period, bills can be easily forgotten and when businesses have closed for the holidays, it’s often too late to get them organised by Christmas Day. Make sure that all of your bills have been paid for your old house and most importantly, ensure that your new house is fully equipped with electricity, water and gas etc well in advance, so you won’t be cold over the winter months.
In order to help you remember to do this, make a checklist of everything you need to cancel and set up, so you have one less thing to stress about. After all, the last thing you want is to be sitting in a dark, cold house on Christmas day!
As you can see, although moving house at Christmas may seem daunting and stressful, by following these easy tips, you can have a successful move and enjoy the festivities at the same time.
