Corporate Immigration update — The Netherlands to expand the obligation to keep records of recognised sponsor companies.
The Netherlands to expand the obligation to keep records of recognised sponsor companies.
Santa Fe publication date
22 December 2025
Overview
Effective 1 January 2026, the administrative requirements for recognised sponsor companies will be expanded.
Who will be affected?
Recognised sponsor companies will need to ensure to keep further details in their personnel records demonstrating that highly skilled migrant and EU Blue Card holders have factually received their salary.
Background
The recognised sponsor companies have three different obligations towards The Netherlands’ Immigration Authorities (IND); 1.) obligation to provide information, 2.) obligation to keep and retain records and 3.) the duty of care. The obligation to keep and retain records will be expanded.
Impact
Currently, the IND only requests payslips or wage specifications. However, these do not prove that these wages have been paid to the employee. To ensure and combat potential abuse of the knowledge migrant and EU Blue Card scheme this new requirement is added.
Documents that could be added to the personnel file:
- Statements from the company’s business bank account, or,
- Summary of a batch payment.
From these documents it must become clear and evident that the employee has received the salary on a bank account that is registered on the name of the employee.
Date of implementation
1 January 2026
Santa Fe recommendation
For most of our trusted clients, this will be a relatively simple requirement that they will have available on demand. It is essential, regardless, to keep these new extended obligations in mind to ensure that the administration reflects the required information. Our team is available for any further guidance or queries regarding these changes.
