HR and Immigration guidance for French companies entering the UK market
Webinar — We welcomed the opportunity to take part in a masterclass hosted with Business France and Salveo for French cleantech companies preparing to explore commercial development, immigration rules, HR and labour law in the UK.
The session brought together organisations from the Hauts-de-France region evaluating the UK as a potential growth market. The discussion focused on the practical realities of post-Brexit entry: how companies recruit, move and support talent, how they structure operations and which employment models carry the least risk when establishing a presence.
Our contribution centred on immigration and compliance. Procedures are more complex post-Brexit, and the conversation highlighted how sponsorship, visa selection and timing shape a company’s ability to move people into the UK with confidence. We outlined the difference between short-term and long-term routes, the documentation required for each and the risks that arise when organisations underestimate administrative demands.
The session also examined the UK payroll model. Its speed and flexibility can support fast market entry, yet it carries legal and fiscal nuances that need careful planning. This includes employer obligations, tax considerations and how local compliance influences workforce design.
A significant part of the discussion focused on umbrella companies and employer of record models. Both can support expansion, but they serve different needs. Umbrella structures suit short-term or contractor-driven activity, while EOR arrangements fit long-term hiring. Understanding who becomes the legal employer, how payroll is handled and where compliance risk sits is essential for companies assessing UK operations.
Across all topics, one theme was clear: accuracy matters. Companies entering the UK need structured information, a clear view of their obligations and support that balances commercial ambition with legal certainty. The exchanges reinforced why expert guidance helps organisations reduce risk and build a stable foundation for growth.
We took part in this masterclass to support our purpose. We exist to help people work, live and thrive in new places around the world, and we refine our approach continuously so clients receive clarity, confidence and a consistent experience throughout their international assignments. Conversations like this deepen our understanding of what organisations need and strengthen the way we support them.
