Immigration update: UAE offers one year residency to Ukrainians (without the need to be sponsored)
Who will be affected?
Citizens of Ukraine have been given the opportunity to apply for a permit to stay in the territory of the United Arab Emirates under a special procedure (residency)
Background
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE has indicated that the people of the countries facing disasters can contact the Tasheel Service Centres and can provide their details for the residency permit. This message was also shared by the Embassy of Ukraine.
Impact
According to the new announcement, the procedure will allow Ukrainians to reside in the UAE without the need for a sponsor under a scheme granted for nationals of countries facing wars or crises.
The announcement also indicated that stranded Ukrainian citizens who are in the UAE as tourists and have overstayed, are exempt from paying fines as this is under the Memorandum of mutual understanding between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the UAE.
Last month, the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) confirmed that Ukrainian citizens will continue to have a visa-free entry upon arriving to the UAE.
