Moving to the USA

Moving to the USA?

The USA has been one of the most successful countries in terms of immigration since the country was founded and now it continues to be a favourite expat destination. Around a million people immigrate to America annually, despite the stricter immigration regulations that have been adopted since 9/11. Now, the USA plays host to one of the world’s largest economic and military powers, with the large country offering six different time zones and a huge selection of cities and towns, offering one of the most diverse expat destinations in the world.

The USA is widely known as the land of opportunities, and the country is home to some of the most powerful people in the world, such as the President of the United States. New York, Florida and California are some of the most popular states for expats to move to alongside the federal district of Washington DC.

High wages and increasing globalisation are some of the main reasons why expats find the country a favourable destination, and in most places climate, cost of living and lifestyle are all favourable too. In addition to this, the USA offers efficient healthcare and education systems as well as a safe, child-friendly environment making it one of the best countries in the world to relocate to, particularly with a family. The cost of living varies state by state, but as the country is one of the richest in the world, it can offer expats a very good standard of living. As with most countries, the closer to a big city like New York City, Chicago, Houston or Los Angeles you are, the more expensive living will be.

Moving to the USA can be both an exciting and daunting prospect due to its vastness, as each state has its own unique culture and lifestyle. But as soon as you’ve found the right state for you, whether it’s the skyline of New York or the wilds of Alaska, you should be able to find everything you will ever need. Food is widely available and relatively cheap, particularly fast food, and there is an abundance of restaurants that you can go to. In addition to this, clothes, utilities and electrical goods are also relatively cheap. English is widely spoken in the country but Spanish is also widely spoken in the country depending on the state, as a direct impact of immigration from across the border.

However, moving to the USA is not always that easy as there are various visas that you will need to apply for in order to live and work in the country. Wall Street is one of the most famous financial districts in the world and there are many expats based here. Alternatively Los Angeles is ideal for entertainment roles. Nevertheless the biggest prospects for expats looking to move to the USA and looking for a job is in the technology industries, with biomedical, software and life sciences looking to employ many thousands of employees in the coming years.
