Immigration update: Thailand | Auto extension of all visas until 30 April 2020
Under the background of COVID-19, the Ministry of Interior has granted permission to automatically extend all visas until 30 April 2020, effective from 9 April 2020.
Who will be affected?
All foreigners residing in Thailand whose visas have expired from 26 March 2020.
Background
As COVID-19 continues to spread in the Kingdom and disrupts people’s travel schedules, the Thai government has stepped up measures to ease foreigners’ concerns about visa extension, as well as to ease the congestion at the Immigration Office.
Impact
This announcement applies to foreigners who are currently residing in Thailand under all visa types.
Below are the changes following this announcement:
- Visas of the aforementioned foreigners will be automatically extended until 30 April 2020, provided that their visas had not expired prior to 26 March 2020.
- Foreigners who are due for 90 days reports between 26 March 2020 and 30 April 2020 are temporarily exempted from reporting until 30 April 2020.
- Foreigners holding Border Passes will be allowed to stay in Thailand for now. However, they must depart Thailand within 7 days of the opening date of the border crossing point.
This announcement will stand until further notice from the government.
