Immigration update: Kenya | Arrival visa and visitors pass validity

2 November 2018

Kenya arrival visa and visitors pass validity

The Department of Immigration Services has issued a directive to all border control posts instructing them to restrict the validity of all Kenya Visitor’s Passes to one (1) month only.

Who is affected:

This will affect foreign nationals travelling to Kenya under the auspices of a Kenya Visitor’s Pass or Arrival Visa. This may also affect individuals intending to renew their Kenya Visitor’s Passes from within Kenya. Citizens of the East African Community will however, be exempted from this directive.

Background:

Late last week the Department of Immigration Services reviewed Arrival Visas and Kenya Visitor’s Pass requirements and resolved that going forward all Kenya Visitor’s Passes may only be issued with a validity of one month.

Impact:

This will have an impact on visitors to Kenya who intended to stay for a period longer than one month. The extent of the changes to extensions of Kenya Visitor’s Passes are still unclear and will be more so once additional directives are issued to outline the new process.

How Santa Fe can assist:

Santa Fe can support businesses who wish to employ foreign nationals in Kenya by assessing their eligibility to qualify for the required work permit to ensure compliance with the immigration rules. We can also review current employees’ work authorizations and if it is found that the correct work permit is not in place we can assist with corrective measures to ensure compliance.

We can also keep your business updated on further developments in Kenyan immigration matters and will advise on any changes requiring your attention.
