Immigration update: Thailand’s Test & Go quarantine exemption scheme closed

Thailand’s Test & Go quarantine exemption scheme will be closed indefinitely, from 11 January, 2022. International travelers from any country around the world, regardless of their vaccination status, can enter Thailand under the Alternative Quarantine entry scheme.

Who will be affected?

Foreigners currently in Thailand and foreigners who are entering Thailand.

Background

The Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced, Thailand’s Test & Go quarantine exemption scheme will be closed indefinitely. International travelers from countries abroad, regardless of their vaccination status, can enter Thailand under the Alternative Quarantine entry scheme.

Some additional updates as follows:

  1. The Phuket Sandbox remains and re-opens for the Sandbox program e.g. Krabi, Phang-Na, or Surat Thani (only Ko Samui, Ko Pha-ngan, and Ko Tao) to start on the 11th January until further notice.
  2. Minimum 7 days quarantine for travelers who have a Certificate of Vaccination for full vaccinated for COVID-19 with an approved vaccine. Minimum of 1 dose for travelers under 18 years of age. Vaccination must have been administered 14 days prior to travel to Thailand.
  3. Minimum 10 days quarantine for travelers who do not have a Certificate of Vaccination.
  4. For travelers under 18 years of age, traveling with parents or guardians, the quarantine period is within the same duration as their parents or guardians.

Impact

This 5th wave of COVID-19 is adding delay to the overall immigration process.

Thai borders are open with restrictions. Employment seekers outside of the above three locations could proceed with their visa applications.
