Immigration update: Malaysia | New Requirements for Nigerian Nationals Relocating to Malaysia
NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR NIGERIAN NATIONALS RELOCATING TO MALAYSIA
All applications involving Nigerian nationals must be submitted together with hardcopy of relevant certificates duly attested / certified by the Malaysia High Commission in Nigeria to the MDEC’s eXpat Service Centre (eXpat Centre), effective 1st September 2019.
Who will be affected?
All Malaysian companies that submit applications involving Nigerian nationals through MDEC’s eXpat Centre.
Background
Effective 1st September 2019, companies that submit Employment Pass (EP) application or any relevant passes for Nigerian nationals through the MDEC’s eXpat Centre are required to submit a hardcopy of educational / marriage / birth / proof of relationship certificate with the original attested / certified true copy (CTC) by the Malaysian High Commission in Nigeria.
Please note that the MDEC’s eXpat Centre will retain the said documents and will not be returned to the Company or Assignee.
Impact
MDEC’s eXpat Centre will have a discretion to put applications on hold until the hardcopy document which is duly attested / certified by the Malaysian High Commission in Nigeria is submitted to them.
Santa Fe Analysis
The attestation / certification of documents should be made at the initial stage of the case. The delay in getting the original hardcopy of the attested / certified documents from the Assignee may cause a delay in the application.
As the hardcopy certificate will be retained by the MDEC’s eXpat Centre, it is strongly advisable for the Assignee to complete the attestation / certification on a copy of the document instead of the original certificate.
