Immigration update: UAE | Income (Not Profession) now a requirement for sponsoring dependants in UAE

Income (Not Profession) now a requirement for sponsoring dependants in UAE

The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) announced the launching of its services in line with the Cabinet’s Decree No. 30 of 2019, which enables residents to bring their family members. This Decree replaces the requirement of profession with that of income.

Who will be affected?

All individual employees (male or female) who are resident in UAE will be able to bring his/her family members (spouse and children under the age of 18 or unmarried daughters) to stay in UAE, provided the family income (husband and wife) or one of them is AED 3,000 with accommodation provision by the employer, or AED 4,000 without accommodation.

Earlier, Female employees needed AED 10,000 (Including accommodation) to be able to sponsor dependants.

Impact :

The requirement of looking at the job title for sponsoring a family was outdated. Many skilled workers in UAE, having years of experience, and when promoted to higher salary grades failed to obtain a managerial or supervisory position stamped on their visa due to lack of educational degree.

However, with the new rules, they can now sponsor their families as they can demonstrate their ability to support their dependants based on their income.

This law gives them a chance to unite with families and this makes UAE a happier place to live and work.

Santa Fe Analysis :

Expatriates will no longer be hampered by their job titles to sponsor dependants now that the new family sponsorship policy for UAE expats has come into effect from 14/07/2019. By making income as one of the criteria instead of profession, the law has become more inclusive to cover not just professionals but skilled workers as well.
